Honeymoon at a Sandals Resort in St. Lucia
We just got MARRIED on July 1st! I can’t wait to get our pictures back to share some of my favorite details from the happiest day of my life!!
After our wedding we left for the beautiful island of St. Lucia. St. Lucia is truly a honeymoon destination!!!! The island is of volcanic origin and is the only country in the world to be named after a woman. haayyyy!
We stayed at the Sandals Resort La Toc for a week, and it was our first time staying in an all-inclusive resort. We enjoyed every moment of our relaxing honeymoon, but learned we are not really all-inclusive resort people.
Benefits of an all-inclusive…
Unlimited Food & Alcohol is included in the price you pay.
There was absolutely NO “tipping” at the resort. If bartenders or waiters received tips they would have to turn them in as a charitable donation or they could get into trouble. However, guests would covertly slip bartenders a little cash and their drinks are allegedly a little stronger, if you catch our drift.
The staff was absolutely incredible and always in a jovial mood. They were willing to do anything for you to make you feel comfortable.
Water sports and scuba diving were included! Since we are both scuba divers it was wonderful to go on 4 dives and not have to pay for the trip or equipment.
SCUBA DIVER TIDBIT: You must wear at least a shirt on the dives.. we didn’t know so we had to buy shirts.
You were able to visit the other two Sandals resorts on the island which had other restaurants and water sports available. Although, we never made it over to either one.
It was easy to meet others as most of the guests were around our age and also on their honeymoon.
Things to think about…
Excursions were WAYY overpriced. (Obviously)
Taxis to go anywhere started at $30.
You start to feel more restricted unless you want to pay a large amount of $$
We felt like we missed out on being immersed in the St. Lucian culture.
The Mutiny Explorer Excursion
Besides scuba diving, the best part of our trip was our excursion..
I do think we chose the right excursion, but again, it was WAY overpriced. First, we took a catamaran to Soufriere, St. Lucia.
We did a customized excursion where we had our own driver to ourselves and could do whatever we wanted. As a local he knew how to avoid the crowds.
We went zip lining, went on a nature walk where we saw the famous Pitons in a panoramic view, took a mud bath at the base of a volcano, cooled off in a waterfall (NO TOURISTS WERE THERE!!), ate at a local joint, had coffee from a local art shop, and took a sunset cruise on a catamaran where we stopped to snorkel. You had to pay for everything out of pocket EXCEPT the catamaran and snorkeling.
Overall..
St. Lucia is a BEAUTIFUL island with the most welcoming people. If we could do it again we would stay in a small resort and hire a driver to take us to the tourist and local spots. An all-inclusive does have the convenience, but we enjoy being surrounded by locals, learning about new cultures and scoping out local hot spots.
