Quick Trip to Salzburg, Austria
When you think of Salzburg most people either think of the Sound of Music or Mozart’s birthplace. There is truly so much history around every corner of the beautiful city, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Breathtaking churches with gold encrusted floor to ceiling, painted murals, and immaculate chiseled stone detailing. It had a small town feel away from the meandering Christmastime tourists in Vienna.
We really only had one full day in Salzburg, and we cut it shorter than planned due to weather. However, we felt as though we saw a lot within the mere 36 hours we were in the city.
Day 1
We took a train from Salzburg to Vienna, which took about 2.5 hours. We arrived at night, checked into our hotel in the middle of downtown, and had dinner.
Day 2 (YOU CAN DO ALL THIS IN ONE DAY!)
Woke up early to have breakfast, and bought a 24 hour Salzburg card for €24, which was good for all public transportation and most of the tourist sites. TOTALLY WORTH IT! Some spots are around €12 just to get in!!

Hellbrunn Palace: Unfortunately the palace was closed when we were there. It is located outside the city, so make sure you do research before you go. It would be best to go during the Christmas Market period or during warm months when the trick fountains are working. However, the grounds of the palace really are beautiful and the Salzburg Zoo is located close to the palace. At the time we went I would have liked switch this for Stiegl Brewery or Augustiner Brau.

Day 3
Left in the early afternoon to head back to Vienna!
Next time we would like to do:
- Stiegl Brewery (Owned since 1492!)
- Augustiner Brau (Austria’s largest beer inn)
- Other Christmas markets
- Red Bull Hangar-7
- St. Peter Stiftskeller (oldest restaurant in the world… we went by it but didn’t go in because it was so expensive, but may be worth it to get a app or dessert)
I’m sure there is a lot to do in the summertime as well, so I’m sure there will be more trips to Salzburg in our future!
♥ & xx
